I own Hero Octane cycl disc brakes 21 gear. When I change rear gear to 1 it is actually 3. and when 3 it is 5.

Question

I own as you know an Hero octane(cycle) with disc brakes and 3 front gears and 7 rear. But, when i change the rear gear(on the right grip shift) to the first, I look at the back and actually it is the 3rd gear. I then move to the second. But it results in being the 4th. I change to 3rd and results to 5th. I change to 4th. It results to 6th. I change to 5th it results in the final gear. So whether i change to the 5th, 6th or 7th, it is the same gear i.e. 7th. I tried to keep the gear on first, stop the cycle and change it to the real first. But when I start pedalling it changes back to 3rd. Please help me. I will tighten, losen, whatever. By the way, It has the quick release thing. If that helps anyway. Thanks,

Sounds to me like you have some cable stretch resulting in poor shifting and the derailluer is not adjusted. See a good bike shop mechanic and have a tune up on the bike...

your rear derailleur needs to be adjusted. take to bike to the shop, and have the pros fix it. if the derailleur is shot, it will probably cost more to replace, than you originally paid for that bike..
