  1. depends on where  you live , you ned to find a old school mechanic , stay away from the dealerships find a private mechanic

  2. Get a service manual and do the work yourself.  I got mine from eBay.  This was the best $25 I spent on my ride.  It will pay for itself the first time you use it.

I have a Clymer manual for my Intruder.  Chapter 7 gives complete instructions on how to remove and service the carburetors.  There are also some trouble shooting instructions which may be useful.  Read and understand this chapter before you start.  At least with the service manual, you will be able to figure out if you are getting in over your head.

Like any motorcycle, the Intruder has its quirks.  For example the Intruder has two almost completely different carburetors, one side draft and one down draft carburetor.  A service manual helps a lot to understand some of these quirks.

You could also get some good advice on this bike from the Intruder Alert forum.  This is a Suzuki Intruder /  Boulevard owners club.  Registration is free.  There are lots of tips on the Intruder here.

I also own a 1994 Suzuki Intruder.  I am very happy with this bike.

  3. Check this guy out...I have NOT dealt with him, but I did research this ques. about a year ago when I was messing with my carbs on my Virago 1100...I pulled them and did it myself, with no regrets.

Take your time, they aren't swiss watches inside, but they aren't bulletproof either...work on a clean worksurface, plenty of light, have a magnifing glass handy [esp if you're older--I'm only 25, but my eyes are 60  :o)   ]  ...don't let any little springs jump onto the floor.  Take extra care when handling the floats and the needles.

Take pix, and post the results, lol  !!!   So's we can all point and laugh !!!

  4. It could be, but it all depends on how mechanically inclined you are. They're not that hard if you remember where everything goes after you've taken it apart and are ready to put it back together. The only problem I can see is if you can't find anyone to repair it, you might not find the kit to rebuild it. I'm sure that someone out there has a web site to go to find the kit. Good luck!!!
