I have checked the fuses and they are all good. Is there something else I can check that could easily be replaced before I take it into the shop?

  1. The fuses may be good, but is power getting to the fuse box?

Check for power at both sides of each fuse with a test light.

Perhaps the ignition switch is bad and not sending power to the fuse box.

Or the fuse box is unplugged.

  2. like SID says the relay may be bad

  3. check the fuse relay

  4. I had a 2000 sporty that had a similar issue.  If I hit the highbeam I would loose the head and tail lights.  Turned out to be a wiring issue.

  5. Check the ground connection, it could be bad too.

  6. Does it start? Is the speedo gauge lit up? if not chck the battery connections (tight) then check to make sure you didnt leave the key in the ACC position (you can still remove the key but will leave the speedo and tailight running light on) hence dead battery. Next is the wiring to the key and back again but now things are getting deep and you should know if any of these things have been messed with.

  7. if the other battery operated components work fine, no there is no simple check... if you could figure it out yourself you wouldn't need to take it to the shop..
