I am TOTALLY lost on how this lighter works. Also it looks as if it doesn't need a wick as where the flame would be is too small to take a wick. The lighter is from the fifties. Please Help!

  1. butane lighter. on the bottom should be a port for the flint & spring and another to take gas. If its butane it will look like a small brass nipple in a small circular (maybe slotted) well. If it's liquid fuel the port will open to reveal a patch of cotton like material.

  2. Think about it a disposable lighter has no wick so as i recall the ones i saw never had a wick but did have flint as they didn't have electronic ignition on most of them until later on.
