  1. My boyfriend has a PS3 with the HDMI cable and the resolution is really clear.  Sometimes it honestly looks like real people not video game people and any games with a lot of nature scenes like Uncharted look really awesome.  It's well worth the money.

  2. You should use an HDMI cable instead. The picture will be a lot better if you use it, instead of the component cable.

  3. Well, the cable isn't going to improve your frame rate but it will definitely be a quantum leap over the regular AV cable that comes with the system.  Right now, you aren't even playing games in HD with that!

Get the HDMI cable.  Even if your TV only does 720p, you want the HDMI cable.  Here's why - the copy protection on blu-ray movies (not the games - only the movies!) will not allow you to play them in HD on anything other than a HDMI cable.  Oh, they'll still work if you use a component cable, but the PS3 will only be outputting the video at 480p - which is the same as plain old DVD.

Only HDMI is allowed to carry the full HD signal from a blu-ray movie to your TV.

  4. Also only HDMI lets you pass full resolution AUDIO too... (remember that the soundtrack and dialog are more than half the experience of the movie)....

  5. Do you have a TV that can take advantage of newer video formats? It sounds to me like you may not. If you have a normal SD (standard definition) TV you are probably stuck with composite video (the yellow connector) if it has an input at all. Many don't.

If you do have a high definition (HD) TV then by all means get an HDMI cable. You don't have to spend a fortune on it, I found an HDMI cable at Newegg for $10 and it works just fine.

Don't forget to hook a sound cable to your surround sound receiver so you get the cool 5.1 sound too.

BTW different cables will not improve your frame rate. HD TVs do use higher frame rates than SD TVs and that may be what you are thinking of.
