A friend recently gave me their old Tivo and I have just begin using it. They previously signed up for the Lifetime Service so I do not have to pay a monthly fee. I wanted to see about signing up at Tivo.com (someone told me you can communicate with your Tivo online to set up recordings) and am unable to because the service is not in my name and therefore I have limited information. Does anyone know how to officially transfer service? It is my understanding that the lifetime service is linked to the actual Tivo and not the original owner.

  1. Hi Cris,

Yes, the lifetime service is linked to the box so it should actually be working already.

To change the service to your name you have to call TiVo Customer Support

Yes, you can set up your TiVo to update over the Internet and you can program it from any computer in the world. You can also connect to your computer and view pictures and listen to music that is on your computer. To do this you need the free TiVo to go software. You can get it free from Tivo here - http://www.tivo.com/mytivo/domore/tivoto...
