I own a web design business, how do I get more clients fast?

Research and leg work.

Check out the existing sites of local small businesses. Of those whose sites could use some TLC or those who don't have a site at all, put together a promotional package (including your portfolio or the URLs of sites you've done) and go and introduce yourself. If you can show them what you would recommend for their site, by all means do so. They won't want to f**t around with domain registration or finding a host -- what they'll want to do is have you handle everything, keep them updated, and just write you a cheque at the end.

Even if they aren't ready to buy that day, believe me, "fix the website" is perpetually on every small business owner's to-do list. There's just never enough time or money, or everyone you approach wants to give you a full Flash workup with all kinds of applets, games, animations, shopping carts and c**p, and charge you the corresponding thousands of dollars for it.

Offer them something affordable, clean, and the option to do their own updates when it's completed. Make your site scalable so that when and if they want to add features, it won't be a big issue to call you and have you set that up for them, but start with a basic site that will serve them. From time to time, and maybe eventually, you'll get some customers who want all the fancy stuff, but right now we're talking about your bread-and-butter clients, which there are far more of anyway.

Small business owners have a real sense of community with other small business owners, and talk all the time about where to get the best supplies and services. If you make them happy they WILL refer you to their acquaintances.

Put an ad somewhere that says "mention this ad and get ____ dollars off your service" or something like that.

well there is many things that you can do to get clients and here are a few that are simple to do:   make a lot of flyers and hand them out to people or put them in peoples mailboxes. also you can tell all your friends and tell them to tell their freinds and so on.one other thing you can do is put an ad in the news paper and discribe it well so they would be intrested. over all just keep on trying to get  clients and never ever give up! =]
