I moved to the UK from Ireland last year and now I want to register my car in the UK. Its a 6 year old opel corsa.

Will I need to pay VAT?

What do I do first? I've got a quote for insurance but it will only give me 14 days in order to register it. Is that enough time?

Help!! Please!!

  1. Don't worry about the insurance quote, you can easily get another if re-registration takes more than 14 days.  Providing you're not driving around uninsured that is!

Ring the DVLA, they will handle the re-registration and they have helplines with real people who can find out the answers.

I presume Irish VAT was paid when the car was new if it is for your own use, you will not need to pay UK VAT as well.

But the DVLA will know for certain- ask them!
