  1. Depends upon where you are located. Most jurisdictions require a license to rent a property, and an inspection is made to make sure the dwelling unit complies with minimum standards. Other areas are not quite so strict about renting. Check with your local government agency and see what they say.

Well lets see...the property tax department will want to know, because if you are now making a profit on the properties, your taxes may go up because you are using it for a different use.  Then, Code Enforcement has to get involved to make sure everything is safe for occupants.  Then of course zoning will get involved too because your area may not be zoned a rental area.  You will also have to notify your insurance company because rentals fall under a different policy.  A LOT of people will have their hands out, so be prepared.  You will also have to do your tax return in a totally different way.
