  1. I passed my test in March,1968 and 4-star for my Ford Zodiac 2.6 cost four shillings a gallon (20p).

It may not sound much now, but I only took home £9 a week in 1968!

  2. I remember my dad putting it in at 5/10d in the late 60s. The cheapest I remember buying it at myself is 62p a gallon in 1977.

Eee, them were't days tha knows!

  3. Yeah back in the day in Georgia it was .99 a gallon. oh the good old days.

  4. Sure, when I first started driving gas was around $0.50 a gallon. I used to ride my moped up to the local *full service* station and get $0.25 worth and it would keep me running for a week.

  5. I remember it being 98p in 1977

  6. Passed in 1971 - 35p/gallon.

I remember my dad being annoyed when he could no longer buy 4 gallons for £1

  7. In the US I bought gas in 97 in Atlanta Ga for 98 cents a gallon.

  8. I passed my test in 1968, but I remember paying three shillings for a gallon (15p in today's currency)

I am sure that petrol prices jumped in the mid 1950s with the Suez Crisis and that before then, it was as little two shillings a gallon (10p)

  9. ran about on a motorcycle in 1961 and petrol cost me 5 shillings per gallon  thats 25pence in todays money but as i was serving my time as electrician my wages were £ 3-00 per 45 hour week

  10. Yep, 6 shillings (30p).  1969 I think.

  11. Passed my test in 1969 - still didn't earn enough to run a car!!

  12. Aye, and You could leave Your doors unlocked at night, and post office queues were shorter. I don't remember any cheaper than 52p a litre.
