I performed well in the IPL this year: Umesh Yadav – Cricket News Update
Despite his team’s inability to qualify for the final of the Indian Premier League, Delhi Daredevils pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umesh-Yadav-c94625 has emphasized the positives by pointing out that the season was an improvement for him in terms of individual performances.
“Last year wasn't that great for me. So, I wanted to do well. I think I performed pretty well this time. I got a couple of three-wicket hauls and also won the Man of the Match awards twice. Except for one match, I managed to contain the batsmen,” Yadav told
Times of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
The 24-year-old, who had been unimpressive in the 2011 edition of the IPL, made a significant improvement over his figures from last year, claiming 19 scalps with an economy rate of 7.42 in the recently wrapped-up season. Notable among his performances were
figures of 3 for 21 against the Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780, and a 3 for 19, yet again against the same team at Dharamsala. His weakest performance was a 0 for 42 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 17.
However, the fast bowler managed to contribute in nearly every match he played, going wicket-less in only 6 out of 17 matches. He served as a core element in the Daredevils’ bowling unit, which also featured South African pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Morkel-c73528.
The Daredevils had a successful season as far as the league stage of the tournament is concerned. They got off to a good start, winning 4 of their first 5 matches. Maintaining consistent performances throughout, they managed to finish the league stage at
the top of the tournament points table, winning 11 of their 16 matches.
However, they were not able to carry the same momentum into the playoffs, and lost both the first qualifying match against the Kolkata Knight Riders by 18 runs, and the second qualifier against the Chennai Super Kings by a shocking 86 runs.
Despite the obvious disappointment at the way the season had ended for his team, Yadav remained optimistic, claiming that the Daredevils had improved over their IPL 2011 performances, and would be sure to put up a fight in the upcoming Champions League T20.
“It would have been nice if we had won the championship but from the bottom last year to finish the league table on top was a good achievement … It's unfortunate that we couldn't go all the way. However, we will compensate this in the Champions League,”
he said.
