Question:

I phoned 999?

I was on Union street Aberdeen, when I discovered an unconcious man lying there on the ground. I took notice and found that there was nobody attending to him, so I phoned 999 and asked for the police. The phone was ringing, and someone with a walkie talkie appeared, so I hung up, to avoid waisting 999s time. Was this the correct thing to do?

  1. Probably, but they will probably call you back to confirm that there is still not a problem.

  2. No, you should have said something anyway just in case. Who knows who the walkie talkie guy is. Furthermore, they might suspect you of doing prank calls.

  3. if the man with the walkie talkie was able to help then yes, otherwise just pick up the phone and redial the number

  4. Yes.Though you would have stilled called back to let them know that you had received help from one of them.Because these calls are recorded. You may be mistaken for one of those 999 time wasters.

  5. Yes as long as the person with the walkie talkie could help the guy.

  6. was the man with the walkie talkie a man named SiGoth!?

  7. Only if it was a police officer and not a security man!

  8. when you first dial the emergency service ask for whichever you require tell them the location and when you are told to hang up place the reciever on the hook

  9. Was it a refuse collector with a walkie talkie, or a policeman or what? A man who is unconcious has some kind of head injury and needs a medical opinion as soon as is practible.  I can see why you finished your call, but it may have cost vital minutes getting medical assistance to the scene. I can't tell you if you did the right thing or not because i don't know the mans condition. In a situation where the the police, ambulance or fire brigade ar required I will always make the call myself, mainly for the fear of everybody else thinking that somebody else has made the call. The emergency services would not send two ambulances if only one was required.

  10. no it could of been anyone with a walkie talkie and they may of not called 999.

  11. I don't get this bit

'and someone with a walkie talkie appeared'

Did you not ask the guy with the walkie talkie who he was? Was he in uniform?
