Question:

I pick #5 in my fantasy football draft tonight and I want Adrian Peterson. Any chance he falls into my lap?

I want him with a passion. If i don't get him I will try to trade for him. I plan on taking Joseph Addai at 5 if i can't get All Day. Even though there are some other RB's ranked ahead of him, I trust his production more and the offense around him. Would this be a good pick?

  1. If you're playing with guys who know what they are doing, you will not get him.

LT will go first and AP will go 2nd or 3rd behind Brian Westbrook.

    Steven Jackson 4th.

Addai will be your man.... although Frank Gore might have the better year. Latest news in 9er land is that he is "going to be the focus of the offense"

  2. In most drafts I have seen LT and AD go #1 and #2, respectively. AD will be available at 3rd at best.

However, you might find Brian Westbrook. I saw him taken at #8 in one league.

Don't take Tom Brady that early. History (Marino and Manning) tells that he won't match his 2007 numbers.

  3. First 6 picks should be:

    1.Tomlinson

    2.Peterson

    3.Brady

    4.S Jax

    5.ADDAI

    6.Barber

Even though I hate S jax

  4. I really don't think he'll be there for you to pick.  I'd put a contingency plan together.  One thing you might want to keep in mind as you're drafting is to try and grab some slight upgrades from the person who chose AP.  Then you can set up a trade package that could look attractive.

That being said, be careful.  If someone knows you want a player and will overpay to get them, then they will take you for all you have.  Then you'll be left with nothing but AP.  Top tier players are great, but if you can form a well balanced team and pick up a free agent that is hot, you stand better chance of winning in your league.

  5. No way he falls to 5 unless the people in your league are retarded. Addai or Barber at #5 seem like solid picks to me..

  6. not unless the other guys are drunk i mean he will prob be picked third or fourth

  7. No chance.  Peterson is a top 2 pick.

  8. yeah man you shouldn't even look at it the way you're looking at it. he won't drop that far. what you need to do is come up with a working list of FIVE guys you want with a passion, because one of them is going to be there. that's the only way to do it really, pre-determine who your top-5 are and pick the one that makes it. My top 5 would look something like this, though I don't mean to lead you:

Ladanian tomlinson, adrian peterson, tom brady, Clinton Portis, Brian Westbrook.

I also doubt you'll be able to get a reasonable trade for him. People are going to ask for too much for him.

  9. I agree with all of the above Addaiiii or Gore (or Portis) are your guys...

Also, Brady or Moss could be viable picks.  They have name recognition for trades later (there are only 3-4 top tier QBs and WRs this year, then the rest of the pack).  Look at Moss if you get PPR (points per reception), as this makes him as valuable as any top 5 RB.

Good luck, 5-7 are tough picks and I don't envy you.

Oh yeah, keep your mouth shut too.  This is just as much a poker game as, well, a poker game.

  10. addai is a good pick.  since he'll be the highest rated rb when you pick.   just take em and roll with the draft but i wouldn't trade for AP.   you'll get raped for him and leave your team with more holes

  11. I really don't think you have any change of getting AP. Also If westbrook is still there i would take him at 5. Whatever you do, do not trade your first pick and your 2nd pick for AP, I made that mistake last year for LT.

But I think maybe AP may have the Jamal Lewis effect, fabulous RB rookie season, then cheaa. So good luck.

  12. Peterson wont be there by #5, he was taken 3rd in my draft. I had the 5th pick in my draft too though and i went with Brain Westbrook b cuz he gets a lot of reciving and rushing yards, in my opinion i would go with Westbrook before you go with addai, westbrook is also more valuable in trades.
