With Zenit St. Petersburg playing in three different competitions this season, including Russian Premier League, Russian Cup and the UEFA Champions League, newbie Renat Yanbayev believes that he will try to justify Luciano Spalletti’s
decision to sign him.
Yanbayev, who moved to Zenit on a season long loan spell from Lokomotiv Moscow earlier this month, marked his debut after playing for the defending league champion’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/U-17-Youth-team-c40787 on Wednesday.
The former Kuban Krasnodar stopper has expressed his delight to join Zenit, saying that he is particularly proud of the fact that a big Russian club came after him.
Yanbayev, who has not been included in the final 23-man list to play in the Champions League, assured the fans of helping the St. Petersburg club in domestic competitions including the prestigious Russian cup.
Zenit will play the round-of-16 of the cup tournament against FC Baltika Kaliningrad after playing two league games and their first Champions League group stage match against Malaga CF on 18th.
“I hope I will help the club in a busy schedule ahead. They are competing for the league title and the domestic cup. Hopefully, I will justify my move to such a big club.” The former Anzhi Makhachkala player was quoted as saying.
Though Spartak Moscow and Rubin Kazan tried to hijack the 28-year-old left back’s move to Petrovsky stadium, they subsequently failed in their quest to sign Yanbayev after the Russian defender himself opted to join Zenit.
Yanbayev revealed that he himself decided to join the Russian Super Cup runner’s up after rejecting the Moscow-based club’s offer.
“Spartak came up with their proposal but I decided to join at the final day of the transfer window. I am happy to be a part of one of the best club in the entire country.” He concluded.
Yanbayev expressed his desire to play Zenit’s upcoming league tie against Terek Grozny, saying that he is ready to face the Chechens, who are playing quality football at the moment.
