  1. The key thing is to get accepted into Columbia.  Columbia has a core curriculum, so most freshman take basically the same courses, regardless of what school they are in. I was a SEAS student, and there were plenty of pre-med kids from Columbia College in my classes.  You can switch schools after a year (i.e. transfer to Columbia College), change your major to pre-med, and still not really miss any courses because there is a lot of overlap between pre-med and engineering during the first two years.

Or, you can stay in SEAS and just go to medical school afterwards.   You'll have a lot of choices, so don't worry about it.

  2. I don't know what SEAS is, but if it is an accredited university then yes you can. If SEAS is just a community college then I wouldn't recommend it because most medical schools don't accept community college credit. However, Pre-med isn't a major usually, and if it is at that university I wouldn't recommend it because a lot of medical schools look down on the fact that you're not considering other possibilities other than medicine, because it makes you look desperate and needy. As long as you go to a real university, it doesn't make a huge difference to med schools except if that university has a med school. Med schools like to recruit from their own university as well as in state.
