well, you should no, the French typically don't like American's and you should really no the language, I am trying to teach myself. I have always wanted to go so you are so lucky to be able to go. Although since I am only 12 I have a lot of time left :) While there i suggest that you see at least these:

Eifel Tower

Arc De Triomphe

Hall of Mirrors

Paris is the least friendly place in France for tourists.  I've been all over France, and I speak French quite well (used to be fluent, but don't use it enough).  In the rural areas, people love the fact that I can communicate, love that I'm interested in visiting, and are quite friendly and eager to show off their local stuff.  In Paris, you can easily get the cold shoulder, and people will insist on speaking their awful English to you rather than listening to your much better French (if you have it).  Still, I do love Paris, and just put up with the occasional snottiness.  

Last time we were there, we stayed at a "Campanile" hotel (it's an inexpensive chain, but clean and reliable) near the airport because we had an early flight out.  We chose it because it was right next to a subway station.  We took the subway into the city.  This worked very well.  We could have afforded something fancier, but the convenience was more important for us.

You should know the museums are free to anyone on the weekends, the best time to see is the Eifel Tower is when they first open the lines (8:30 a.m. stand in line), pick pockets are prevalent, don't drive in Paris, great shopping malls, DO NOT buy your little souvenirs from the shops (buy from the vendors who stop you by the Eifel Tower (you can get the tower key chains for friends and family at the rate of 6 for 2 euro), and of course knowing a little of the language will help. The french will stop you when you start butchering their language and communicate in english (well some). Bon voyage!
