  1. Also, video cards use a 6 or 9 pin power adapter. If you don't have one coming from you power supply. use the adapter that should come with your card. It looks like a splitter. It will have two 4 pin connectors to use on the power connectors that are similar to one plugged into your harddrives...the other end which is prob 6pin, plugs into the card itself.

  2. Your power outlet is good for about 15 amps and 2,000 watts, assuming you have modern wiring and live in the US. As for your power supply, the 8600GT draws four 12V rail amps. If you have a PC with at least a 300 watt rating and weak components like a Celeron, I wouldn't worry. Even 250 watts may work if the rails have at least 13 or 14 12V amps- Nvidia puts out figures cautiously, and never allow for peaks never full rated load. Lastly, the 8600GT itself gets insanely hot, but that's just because the reference Nvidia cooler is dreadful. The board itself won't do much to heat up your case. Oh, and contrary to what others say, 8600GTs don't need external 6-pin power. Nope.

If you need a power supply, get this. It's made by SeaSonic, has a Japanese output cap, and can reliably deliver all 430 watts.

  3. When the video card is installed onto the motherboard, there should be a cable coming out of the power supply already in your computer to attach to the video card if it is required. There should also be a cooling fan supplied with it if one is required.
