  1. get on the subway like all the other new yorkers and get to Coney Island and have some hot dogs,    or go to City Island and have a seafood dinner,     new york is ticking day and night,      they got a Thanks Giving day parade,   and everything is on,   you can always get a real bagel, or a real ham and chees sandwhich,     sure beats what they have in the rest of the country,  so wait for the museum to open the next day,

  2. Actually, the day after Thanksgiving is the kick off to the busy season of the year.

Just about EVERYTHING will be open.

Decorations will already be up.  So, it will also be beautiful!

    Have a safe trip!!

Is it for business or pleasure???

  3. NYC is always open..have fun!

  4. Its probably the opposite. All the stores will be open, most of the museums, restaurants will most likely be waiting for you guys to come and eat.

  5. I don't think everything will be closed. Most people go out to eat that day.

  6. everything will be open!

new york is callled the city that never sleeps!

  7. New York City is the city that never sleeps, there are always tourists there and shops restaurants and museums expecting that.  Thanksgiving especially is a popular time to go to the city. The huge Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade is there, which draws a ton of people to the city during the holiday. After the parade, the city will be getting ready for Christmas and it will be absolutely beautiful! Have a great trip!

  8. Educated guess here as I'm a native Floridian-

It's a tourist location, and a tourist season. I think you're safe in assuming many things will be open but possibly close early during twilight? I am headed to the area for Thanksgiving for my first time as well (well, the area as in Bayonne, New Jersey!) but I've got a few NY activities planned and they're open.

  9. As a frequent visitor to New York City, I can assure you that your fears are unfounded. It isn't called "the city that never sleeps" for nothing.^

    Have fun!

  10. As someone who lives in NYC, I will say that Thanksgiving is one of the holidays many things DO close for (along with Christmas and New Years. That's about it. Even Easter sees many things open.)

Stores are mostly closed (though that's starting to change. Even Macy's opened for a few hours late in the day last Thanksgiving. More and more large stores are starting to open for part of the day on Thanksgiving, but many are closed.)

Many restaurants are open. But be aware - many, many restaurants are serving special Thanksgiving dinners that day. That means a fixed price, multi-course menu. Not their standard fare.

Of course there are many places that are just open as normal. This is New York, after all, so there is diversity, even in what different stores and restaurants do on Thanksgiving. But do know that even in NYC, Thanksgiving is a major holiday. Maybe even more than Christmas, in some ways. Because everyone celebrates Thanksgiving, and not everyone celebrates Christmas in NYC.

    Many museums are closed, btw.

I should point out that I'm only talking about Thanksgiving day itself. The next days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) are big shopping days, and EVERYTHING is very much open!
