I'm in college right now and in 3 years i plan to graduate and go on a 2 month vacation before i start my career (engineering).

I want to go to europe for a about a month, and for the other, a mix of Hawaii and a good U.S. national park.

How would you suggest i plan.

Europe: Should i book hotel stays in advance of the travel route i choose. or just stay as i go, and travel as i please. I mean i will have a month in europe to explore and i don't want to feel tied down to a routine. Is either choice going to save me money.

I plan to buy a train pass once i'm there.

As far as a national park goes i plan to camp. and do whatever i want.

But for Hawaii, is it best to just book on my own or are travel agents a good help?

I am an inexperienced traveler and want this trip to be fun and well planned so i don't run into many problems.

ANY ADVICE ON PLANNING TIPS??

  1. If you want to keep your travel plans open, I'd recommend checking into Hosteling International.  They are located all over, and you can book a room or show up (availability would depend on the season you're going).

They give you a discount after four nights total (at any locations).  HI has the best reputation--and the nicest hostels--in Europe.

For Hawaii, if you're not familiar with the islands, or don't want to be bothered with the booking hassles, I'd recommend an agent.

  2. For Europe, get a student Europass (under 25) and travel by train.  You can pick how many countries you want to visit, how long, etc.  You get a massive discount if you get the student pass!

For Hawaii I would join AAA and let them take care of it.  Better to spend a few bucks now, rather than get there and hate where you're staying or something.

    :)
