I planted 12 Liatris for the first time this year and are single spikes.Do they become more than single?

I planted them as directed, and they came up as grassy clumps and then a single spike from each clump. Will they grow more next year, or do they only produce one spike of flowers from each clump?

Liatris will fill out like crazy once they are established. You will get dozens of flower spikes on a mature clump.
