Question:

I planted hollyhocks last year while blooming. This year no blooms what so ever but they have plenty of leaves

They are only about two feet tall. What did I do wrong??

  1. Hollyhocks are a biennial, they bloom only every other year.

  2. Hollyhocks flower on plants that were planted from seed the previous year. If you are lucky, your flowers one year will drop seeds that grow into small plants and then flower the following year.

    However, plants that flowered last year will hardly ever flower the following year.
