so this is the part i am stressed about

The basic assignment for the summer is to read a substantial magazine article every week or so—6 all together. Your best source is The New Yorker, much of which is posted online every week (there’s a link to it in the box to the right). The big, mainstream news magazines like Time and Newsweek are off-limits as the writing is too simple (8th or 9th grade reading level in fact). Use The Atlantic if you have access to it (they’re stingy online), or the main feature article in Rolling Stone. The New York Times (link provided to the right) also publishes longer articles in its Sunday magazine—the article must be at least 2500 words long to qualify. There are lots of other good sources, obviously, but if you stick to these, I’ll likely have read the article too.

because i never did an article do you think the teacher will mind if i do six from now or am i screwed and need to find articles from june and july, i know it would probably be ok with some teachers but this is a 11th grade AP Composition class

if you think i need to get old artiles to do the assinment on finding me one will definetly get you 10 points

  1. start writing one from this month because no matter what you'll have to turn in from august. i'd just wait till monday and ask her and turn it in late because most like no matter what it's gonna be late But if you so that you should ask her before school so she thinks you are sincerely making an effort

  2. I think you need to get cranking!  At least get some articles from June/July so it looks like you've been doing the assignment over the summer.  However, as a university lecturer, can I tell you it's always obvious when someone has done an assignment in a hurry?  So get cracking on this one, and learn from the experience.

  3. Find one yourself, this is unbelievably lazy, it will take five minutes on the New York Times website.

You can read 6 articles of this size in a couple of hours.

  4. tell them your grandma died and you had to fly to hawaii for the funeral. leaving all your information at home with no way of getting it and ask for more time.

  5. Lol i totally did that.

    pull an all nighter?

  6. Here's a few links to New York Times feature articles from June:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/15/magazi...

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/19/us/19f...

I don't know if they're long enough, so copy and paste them into a Word document and do a word count.

Your teacher WILL mind that you've started late, but if you find some solid articles and read them a couple of times, it should give you a good understanding.

    Good luck and happy reading!
