I have it installed properly, however it only gets reception on the interstate, and in rural areas fades in and out, with maybe one or two bars. I am located in Maine, and wonder if anyone else has XM and has the same reception. It also does not sound half as good as the regular radio and does not have the clarity, did I waste my money?

  1. Shannon may be correct. However before buying an adaptor, call tech support and go over your problem with them. Maine is at the extreme of the signal and they may want to switch you to XM Canada. XM has excellent TS.

  2. The hardwire may be needed for the clarity...

But recheck your mounting of the antenna (make sure it's outside the car as I've seen many do installs inside the vehicle of the antenna) and such as as someone said, if you have a lot of cover over the southern sky (trees, hills), you can loose the signal quality but usually with digital it's there or nothing and there is a buffering to keep you from loosing your signal.

I'd double check the connections as you are supposed to have a better signal strength than I do in the south and we hear it as long as the cover isn't too much in the tree folliage

But yeah with a FM modulator, you are only hearing it as good as your Fm modulator broadcasts.. if hard wired, you may have other issues.

  3. you need a IP adapter.  please clarify, are you going past high trees or buildings.  if you are getting bleed through from other channels, you can fix it with the ip adapter.  if there are trees or certain buildings, there's nothing you can do.
