I purchased a microphone and there is no sound when i use it. What should i do?

I have a Canon ZR850 and this camera doesn't have a mic jack. So in order to plug in the Azden SGM-X that I purchased, I plugged my red and white AV cables into a Y-Cable and plugged that into the microphone instead of the cable that is provided. When I try to use my new microphone there is no sound. I made sure that everything was plugged in tight and the microphone was on so I am at a loss. Please help!

  1. That jack on the camera is an audio OUTPUT for playback; not an INPUT, so the only option for sound on your Canon ZR850 is the microphone of the camera itself.  There is no other option.

    The microphone you bought probably works just fine, but your camera doesn't have an audio input.  There's no way around it.
