Factory trained repair people want $2,500.00 to replace the whole works. It has been cleaned and lubricated. Is there any way to get it to work? I only paid $2,500 for it new.... I don't want to spend that much again.

  1. BELIEVE me I could go a lot longer 28 years ago than I can now.  Whew, the knees are not the first thing to go.

  2. See if there's and independent clock shop in your area and get another opinion.  Have you had the clock serviced over it's 28 years?  If not, dirt may have worked it's way into the bushings.  If there isn't a mechanical wear problem, soaking the works in a cleaner, maybe something like kerosene, over an extended period of time so it can work into the bushings and clean out the grime, then a complete lubrication and service might do the trick.

  3. Why didn't you take it back 28 years ago, or is this a recent development?

Is there a winding mechanism that you're neglecting to wind?
