Question:

I pushed myself too hard. What is this injury?

I was on my bicycle, running late for an appointment... so I rode really hard for an hour. Now my leg hurts right at the hip, in the front - not the groin. I thought it was something that would go away (the pain has appeared in the past and gone away on its own), but it's persisted for about a week.

What might this be?

  1. Uhmmm you probably just "pulled" a muscle or a tendon.  Ice to reduce swelling, but it's a little late for that treatment.  Get an over-the-counter pain reducer, anti-inflamatory and follow the directions exactly.  And when you ride your bike use easy gears so you have to spin above 70 rpms until the pain is gone away for a week so you do not re-injure it.  If you do... apply the ice right away, followed by heat.

  2. From my experience with biking I would say you just have a muscle ache.  You probably agitated your quads when you were riding so hard.  I would say put some icy hot or bengay on your leg, and wait off the pain.  Next time stretch your arms and legs before you ride.
