new carpet- I was mortified- but this wise person just turned around and said every time I look at that hole I will be reminded of a good deed - I felt like crying - anyone else had wisdom imparted like this ?

I read the first bit and thought you actually burnt the poor old lady! Unfortunately, I think old ladies these days are more likely to scowl at teenagers then give them wise words of wisdom these days. I think it would be nice to have her as a neighbour, wouldn't it?
