Question:

I put batteries back inside a wet toothbrush. Is this toothbrush now unsafe?

I was cleaning out the compartment where the batteries on my electric toothbrush go because it was nasty dirty, and I now realize this was a bad idea. The toothbrush won't start, but I continued to use it. I keep reading that if batteries become wet that they leak fluid, so does this mean that I possibly brushed my teeth with leaky battery acid? I really hope not and I'm pretty worried...any help is greatly appreciated.

  1. You can not physically get hurt but you can ruin the electric toothbrush.  The water can short out the batteries.  Since you are done brushing your teeth for the day, open the battery compartment, take out the batteries and let it dry completely, inside and out.  When it is dry put in a NEW set of batteries and it just may work again.

  2. Chances are pretty good that you are perfectly safe.  I have put batteries in my electric toothbrush while it is wet and have never had a problem.
