Question:

I put my daughter in a Coles supermarket trolley today and the back part flung out ways, and she fell through?

The trolley was obviously faulty, as it shouldnt swing that way. My daughter banged her head, and landed on her back in a heap screaming. A trolley attendant saw it happen, and was very nice and asked if she was ok etc, and got me a new trolley. I then saw him take it to a coles supervisor. At the time, my only concern was for my daughter, who is 2 years old, who now refuses to go in trolleys. She doesnt appear to be too badly hurt, but she sure is shaken. Should i have pursued this further at the supermarket?? Is it too late to make a complaint now that we have come home??

Just to clarify, the back section of the trolley which folds inwards when the trolleys are 'stacked', flung outways and my daugther was sitting in it, but fell through when it gave way.

  1. doesn't it say not to put your children in that part of the cart?

how can you complain when it says not to do it?

  2. I think they have a warning to only have the children in the set part of it. those backs do swing the other way, it is just a matter of the back being at the perfect position.

  3. i would most definatly take this issue further even though she wasnt severely hurt she could have been and i dont think its too late.

  4. It's your responsibility to look after your child. And you know not to put them which is why you didn't see the manager in the first place. You also know you did the wrong thing.

Does your car come with a warning saying "child is not allowed to ride in the boot". Is that why your child doesn't sit in the boot when you drive about?

Use your brains and take some responsibility.

  5. No. The trolleys aren't designed to ferry kids around in. You took that risk by putting your child in *and* not checking if it was safe. Your own fault.

  6. chill. stuff happens.

  7. Oh come on, you know very well you are responsible and you put her in there even though you know you're not supposed to so when you did that you accepted whatever consequences. You have no case, no chance, your fault, suck it up and move on. In future, be more careful and more responsible.
