I quit and never got paid, some advice please?

I was working at Hilton for just under a month (14th of July to 7th August) and I quit without notice because I generally hated it there. I was supposed to be paid for the hours I worked yesterday, but no money went into my account.

Now it says on my contract of employment, if I quit within the first four weeks I don't have to give notice, and as you can see, that was the first four weeks- so they have no right to withold my money, do they? I want my money!

Thanks in advance.

  1. Tell them they have a week or you will go to the Better Business Bureau.  Then carry out your threat if they don't come through.  You can sue, but it will probably cost more than the check.  This way, you may not get the money, but everyone will know about it.

  2. they legally have to pay u for the hours u have worked if they dnt pay go to citizens advice u should fne them and if they refuse tell them u are goin to ure lawyer thatll make them move there butts haha

  3. I wonder if you gave any sort of notice at all, or whether you just didn't turn up for work!  My opinion is that although you were legally able to quit without notice (usually 1 week) within the first 4 weeks, you should have given some indication of your intention to quit if you expected to be paid - at the very least you should have discussed it with your line manager. This would have then given you the opportunity to enquire about payment for the hours already worked.  I think your best course of action would be to ring the HR Department that services the hotel where you worked, in order to clarify the situation, as it may be that they intend to put your wages through on the next payroll. If you need further advice, you may find Citizens Advice useful. (Link below).

  4. Contact the department of Labor..regardless of notice you are to be paid for hours that you work regardless of why or how you quit.I guarantee as soon as Hilton hears from the Labor Department you will have a check..I have had to call the Labor Department on a employer and I got my check quick.

  5. Phone personnel and ask your last payment may be a cheque and being withheld until you hand any uniform back in.

  6. what state are you in, which it really shouldn't matter because the labor law says that you MUST be paid for any hours worked.  Did you clock in and out or is there a way that they can say that your hours weren't documented? That's the only way they could challenge you is if your hours are not documented then it's questionable. but with a company the size of Hilton, they will pay you.  There must be some discrepancy and your supervisor never submitted or approved your time.

  7. Although your contract of employment states that you can quit without notice, you must tell the employer that you wish to quit and want to be paid for the hours you worked. Check with them personally, not just check you bank account.

  8. You can sue them. Threaten to sue them if they don't give you the money for the hours you worked. Or report them to the Labor Bureau

  9. phone citizens advice monday or ring the head office where you worked

  10. sometimes they can hold your pay up to 30 days. Call your HR person and talk with them. As long as in the contract it didnt say "you don't have to give notice in your first 4 weeks for leaving BUT they will hold your pay" or something along those lines.

  11. You in the UK?

Then call ACAS (in the phone book) - the Arbitration Service

They will give you excellent advice in a non partisan manner.

  12. Uhm... well you signed the contract and you haven't broken the rules. How long have you been waiting for the payment, a few days? Maybe it got delayed?
