and now im starting to get negative backlash from my ex coaches , peers , and famliy members. im going to be a senior when the season starts and i dont have the passion for football or the skills i should have because i havn't played in 4 years. My fater used to box and i always wanted to do the same. But since there is no sport like that in high school i figured if i played football i could still be involved in a sport. Other guys at school seem to make jokes because i left football to train for boxing and its really pissing me off. my mom seems a little disapointed because she wanted to attend my games. Why is everyone looking at my boxing interest as a handicap over me quiting football ?

  1. Hey guy follow your heart. You must be a senior in high school. There is a lot of pressure for guys to play football in high school and many guys I have seen played it because they feel they have to, please family members/friends/townsfolk, or if they possess the body of a football player then they have to play. It's the same thing with guys who are 6 foot plus if they don't play basketball then they are not in. I had a friend who is 6 ft 5 inches and he used to wear a t-shirt saying, "6ft5inches and no I don't."

I know what you are going through because I was not athletic but a big person. I was expected to play football but didnt't. I opted for community theatre and the arts.

If you like boxing  and want to take up the sport then I say go for it. You got to do what your heart say and be in something that you have heart and passion for. Football you need to have that and if you don't then you will not be an effective player.

Also, look at that maybe your parents might have seen your playing football as a means of getting a college scholarship. But there is more than one way to get scholarships other than sports.

  2. Stew61 is right I did both and I got way more out of boxing that I did football and I love them both but in boxing you get all the glory by your self good luck

  3. people dont understand boxing. people today think that boxers get into a ring, punch each other and go home. people dont realize what kind of conditioning boxers have to go through just so there bodies can take the punishment they do. A football player once told me that any football player would beat up a boxer in a boxing match (needless to say he wasnt the most intelligent individual), thats an example of the ignorant and pompous attitude that football players have today because football is so popular. i dont know how many people have told me they could beat up mike tyson. trust me, if you take one lesson from a boxing trainer, you will be able to take anyone who threatens you, there is a reason pro boxers have to register there hands as deadly weapons (no joke, if a boxer assaults someone on the street, its considered assault with a deadly weapon, not just assault)
