I"m doing a research on Charles Manson and I read that to brainwash his followers, he used sleep deprivation, s*x, food control and drugs.

My questionis, how does someone use sleep deprivation to control another?

Did he just....deprived them from sleep? But how?

Can anyone help?

  1. You go in just when they are ready to fall asleep and somehow scare the c**p out of them or entice them with their weakness (drugs? LSD?).  YOU DON'T LET THEM SLEEP.

They do  the same thing when interrogating prisoners during war time.  They don't let you sleep. It is amazing what your brain and body is willing to do to survive - remember Patty Hearst?  Elizabeth Smart?

It burns me when people say 'oh they could have gotten away'

    right!

It is a lot easier then it seems, and you'd be surprised how well it works to gain control of another human being

  2. people who are weak minded can be manulated  cuz i dont believe the followers are very bright he preyed on the weak  he might have rather he did keep them on speed and lack of food will make u listen

  4. From what I've read, he mainly used drugs. However, he targeted those who already were leading troubled lives and convinced them he was the answer. Once he got their trust, he began using his powers of persuasion as well as drugs to get them to believe anything he said and to do anything he asked them to. As I mentioned earlier, he targeted specific people. Those who weren't as easily persuaded found him to be scary. In late March 1969, he went to Sharon Tate's home, looking for the previous tenant, Terry Melcher. At the time, Melcher was a big name in the record business and had listened to some of Manson's songs but decided not to take him on as a client. Manson felt betrayed and went to the house to confront him. Instead, he found Sharon, who later told friends that she wondered what this creepy little guy wanted, and the owner of the house, Rudi Altobelli, who was staying in the guesthouse at the time. Manson asked him where Terry Melcher was but apparently something about him bothered Altobelli so he lied and told him he didn't know where he was. Another person who was afraid of Manson was Beach Boy Dennis Wilson. The year before, he had picked up a couple of hitchhikers. These two young women turned out to be followers of Manson and pretty soon, the entire group was living in his house. Dennis Wilson became so afraid of these people that he moved out of the house and allowed his record company's management to evict them. He was incredibly lucky that he wasn't killed for that. If you study the killings closely, you will find that they weren't totally random. The victims might have been but the locations weren't. Part of his motive was revenge for a society he felt rejected him and going after these rich people was one way to do it. He may have spouted peace and love but he was ruthless towards those who crossed him.
