Question:

I ran EZ Pass Toll by Accident.?

Ok so last Friday I was driving up from Princeton to NYC for dinner, then from NYC to CT for a sleepover, then back to NJ the next day. Needless to say, there were TONS of tolls along the way. I was using my dad's EZ Pass, and every time I pass a toll I had to lean and hold the thing up to the windshield for it to read. I don't know why, maybe the GPS that was hooked up to the windshield interfered with it, but twice the EZ Pass didn't register. Once it said "UNPAID" the other time "CANNOT READ TAG."

I paid for at least 5 other tolls with no problems along the way, and I slowed down under 15MPH every time (The second time I had problems I actually stopped, waved the thing around trying to get it to read), so I think it's pretty obvious that I wasn't trying to run it. But now what do I do? I wanted to call them today and try to clear it up, but my dad said I should just wait for the ticket and clear it up then. Wouldn't it be too late by then? How should I handle this?

  1. It can be fixed once you get the ticket. It'll be okay.

  2. Wait for the ticket. You're always given the opportunity to contest a ticket.

Maybe the judge will believe you. maybe he won't.

If he fines you, it means he doesn't believe you, that he thinks you're lying.

    Good luck.

  3. A similar thing happened to me and I called them once I received the ticket (which came pretty fast).  They saw that the other tolls had registered and they said it was not problem and cleared any possible fines.
