at one time the pipe stuck out of my back yard and one of the neighbors said that I could pound it into the ground in which he then did. I live in a new sub-division and all the utilities are under ground. Im the only house on my side of the street and I dont see any of the other lots with this same item. Does anyone have a clue as to what this is? My house was built in fall of 2004 and has all city utilities in wood county ohio I think the cap was black not sure cause it went flying into the bean field. can anyone help please?

  2. Sounds like a water well cap. But I haven't seen any black ones. The interesting thing you mention and leads me to think this is the red-yellow wires, this is the 2 colors, usually, of water pump wires. Did you think about asking the farmer? He probably knows what it is or have a better idea. If it isn't too far down to the water table in your area I'll bet you Navy Beans its a water well cap. Then again I'm not up on all the stuff required by the EPA on watching sites under ground. Like at old closed gas stations, heck even ones that are in operation are required to be monitored so its possible it is something like this, but your contractor/previous land owner or developer or Realtor should have disclosed this to you. If it is and they didn't you need to have a talk with them and possibly with an attorney. Did you note any battery connections? or maybe a small chip of computer hardware? It could be a GPS marker for the farmer or left from his farming operations in the past.

I can tell you what is isn't. It isn't a ta tel tail left in your yard (previous I suspect) - bean field by crop circling  aliens.

  3. Call the electricity supply company and get them to have a look. IT might be where some of the wiring comes up from the underground main. It is not a good idea to go bashing things with wires in them. Don't touch the wires.

  4. It may be a irrigation pump or valve

  5. what ever you do just be careful if you don't know if some thing is in use or dangerous call in a expert
