  1. If you're talking about going to a bar to meet people, that's not for everyone.  You can go to church gatherings, parties at friends houses and socialize.  If you don't even care to do those things, then I think you are a bit too withdrawn and may need some help.  Medicine is not going to help you.  You need to visualize going out and seeing yourself doing something, think about a conversation you would have with people.  Try to be at ease because when you're tense, people will feel it. I hated going to bars and dancing.  That is where I met my husband and it was one of the few times I decided that I would give dancing a try.  If I hadn't I may not be married today with two beautiful children.

  2. You seem rather anxious. I would have a talk with my doctor about it. Maybe its low self esteem that could be causing it.

  3. If you are anxious in all social settings, you may be agoraphobic:

Fixing that may be possible with psychological counseling.

However, if you're only problem is "looking dumb," I could cure that in five minutes if I were with you.  You are probably a perfectionist like myself, but the difference is that I don't care what other people think about me.  I have done foolish things but I am still alive and happy.  I once dated a girl like you who was afraid of looking dumb.  We were eating ice cream and she spilled hers on her lap.  She was very ashamed and wanted to disappear, because there were many people around us.  So, I took my ice cream and smeared it all over my face and shirt, so I looked worse than she did.  After seeing how silly I looked and realizing how unimportant it really was, we were able to walk out of there smiling and laughing, even with everyone staring at us like we were crazy.
