Hey. I read an article today about homosexuality in the ancient greek and rome and they were saying how inclusive the people in that time were. It was totally normal in the society for 2 people of the same s*x to be together or even marry, or they thought that 2 men married and both in the army are better.

I was wondering how so many years ago people were so inclusive and not disciminating, and how now, when we want to consider ourselves progressive and developed, we are actually so narrow minded?

Did we really learn nothing from our ancestors?

Just a thought..

  1. the hate that so may religions propagate has got to be the largest influence on how the world treats the LGBT community.

  2. What i thought was ancient greeks had homosexual relations as par for the course when they were young and learning about themselves but a lot of them married women and desisted when they grew up. i'm unsure about g*y marriage back then, don't know. but homosexual relations were expected and encouraged. that sounds like a good world to me!

  3. the us is very conservative when it comes to lgbt rights and stuff.

  4. Dude i actualy learned  that researching for school

And they thought it was better for them to be in the military

because they would fight harder to impress other men

its like we started devolving XD

  5. Mostly American people.

Asians & Europeans are more accepting.

They are far more civilized than us.

  6. Amen, sir! :) Great question.

It's interesting how people who use their religion or their own prejudices to justify things when they're really just falling in line with other peoples opinions. I'll bet  there weren't many people shouting "you're going to h**l" in ancient Greek. It was normal to them.

  7. Wow so tru I really never thought about that what article did you read this?

Yeah, people tend to be wierd and deny the fact thaqt g*y straight or whatever isn't. Crime its simply love like any other 2 people conection

  8. After those Greek and Roman thingy, two of the biggest religion the world was born and made some standard.

  9. Actually that is not entirely true. It is believed that bisexual behavior was tolerated amongst the Greeks, but only in the upper class and in the army. Usually same-s*x relationships were amongst people where an older male would take a younger lover and teach him about life. As the younger fellow grew up, he would get married and then he would take a younger lover to pass on his knowledge.

But in majority of the cases same-s*x relationships amongst adults were looked down upon. This is evident in the works that have survived, in most of these adult men were mocked for allowing them selves to be penetrated by other men.

Only in Ancient Sparta were men in the army encouraged to form same-s*x relationships. The idea was that one would fight to protect their lover. But all these men were also expected to get married and sire children, since you can only be Spartan by birth and they needed to maintain the population. Most of these relationships ended after discharge from the army.

  10. That was ancient Greece and Rome, but many of the other countries of the time were opposed to homosexuality.

If you lived in Briton a 100 yrs. ago and were g*y you could be imprisoned, banished or executed, same applied to many other european countries; still do in the middle east.  France was more accepting, thus many of the famous authors and artists lived in France. North America, Great Briton and most of Europe have come a long way in the past 100 yrs.

A lot of the problem is when Right Wing Christian Politicians get into office and lobby to have their views forced on the populace. Once it is passed it takes years to undo.
