  1. It may or may not be the safest place to be.  Never been in a quake.  But I think it would be handy if I ever was in a quake to have that close by!!!

  2. The reason why it is safest to hide in a toilet (and this applies more to multi-storey buildings) is because they are built near the strongest part of the building.  The stairwell is another safe place.  Whatever, DONT stay in an open office, near the windows.  You've seen the photos - what is the part of the building that suffers the most damage? - the open office areas and the windows.

In a small house, the toilet room may also be the strongest.

A friend of mine survived the Darwin cyclone of Christmas eve 1974 by crowding everyone into the bathroom.  It was the only room left standing.

  3. If you can fit in a toilet without drowning, be my guest!

  4. Apparently, a small room is best, like a closet.  It is less likely that the room will collapse on itself.

I do have friends that claim that the best place to be in an earthquake is outside.

  5. Can you fit in the toilet?  If so...by all means, yes..it would seem safe! But...

    .

    wouldn't you drown?

  6. Sorry my butt is too big to be fitting in a darn toilet and I'm a skinny guy....

  7. The bathroom, door frame and the staircase are the strongest parts in a house. Seldom they collapse during a quake...................
