  2. Pretty much.  You'll find the golden ratio everywhere, both in nature and things manmade.

    It's based on the Fibonacci sequence:

    1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55...

    Add two consecutive numbers to get the next number in the series.  If you divide a number in the series by the number before it, as the numbers get higher, the result approaches φ = 1.618033..., known as the golden ratio.

    Draw a rectangle with sides of this ratio (a golden rectangle).  You'll find it everywhere in art, architecture, and nature.  This includes the Parthenon, the Mona Lisa, the Vitruvian Man, and the shape of your head and your hand.

    But wait- it gets cooler.  Draw a line through the rectangle so that part of it is a perfect square.  The other part will be a smaller golden rectangle.  You can keep doing this, smaller and smaller, to infinity.  Then you can draw a spiral through all the squares, like this:

    This is called the golden spiral.  You'll find it everywhere in nature... seashells, sunflowers, swirling milk in your coffee, DNA, even the shape of entire galaxies.
