  1. recycle your trash.  Look at the amount of trash produced in your city/state/country and see what you can do to help recycling.  It is usually free also.

  2. Do whatever you feel like doing, conservation is key.I dont go for this global warming c**p at all.But if you want to lower your electrical bill, use flourescent lights(mercury is in them by the way) pick up trash you create...most of all use common sense, the rest will follow!

  3. First start by insulating your home more.

Also you can buy those compact florescent light bulbs and switch out all of your regular bulbs.

Turn down the heat in your house.

Turn off the lights when your not in the room.

Buy renewable energy credits from your utility if they're available.

Car pool, or just drive less.

    Drive slower.

Make sure your car is properly maintained and your tires have the right amount of pressure in them.

Vote for candidates who support alternative energy.

  4. look at everyway in which you can reduce waste. Think of recycling as the last resort. So first don't buy what you don't need or really REALLY want, drink tap water (if safe), reuse containers, if you have a garden compost your organic scraps. As you get more into it you'll get greater understanding on how everything works as a system. Also Green is politics too, and one must be aware of that aspect.

  5. 1. Replace conventional bulbs to flourascent bulbs.

    2. Use your fridges, TVs, less frequently. I heard there are new CFC free fridges in the market of late. You can replace your old with this.

    3. Use public vehicles for traveling and less of your personal vehicles.

    4. Plant trees in your area or help others do it or campaign for it.

    5. Prevent felling trees and plants in your area

  6. Find as much information you can about the various ways in which human activities damage the environment and research small practical steps that you can take and in doing so you will become a greener liver.

Check out http://www.wiserplanet.org at a starting step for your quest.

  7. Yes.. I work for a green corporation GREENPEACE.. You can log onto www.greenpeace.org and see what you can do to help. There are many many ways and I am so happy that you want to go green!! If more people get involved than we are looking at a brighter future for the next generation.

Definetely check out the website and it will give you all the answers that you are looking for.

  8. Don't throw out stuff you could donate to charity.  Also, if you need something, check out local thrift stores and also your local Freecycle.  It's helpful to keep things from going to the landfill that can still be used by someone.

I purchased a bunch of cloth napkins at a thrift store for everyday use.  They were cheap that way, and I got many to use, so we always have some available when the dirty ones are in the laundry.

Seventh Generation makes dish soap that is vegetable instead of petroleum based, which is better for the environment.  You can probably find it in your local grocery store or health food store.

Kirk's castile bar soap is also healthy.  You can probably also find it at a local grocery store or health food store.

Switch to homemade cleaners using things like vinegar, baking soda, borax, and washing soda.  Check at your local library for books like "Clean and Green" by Annie Berthold-Bond, "Green Clean" by Linda Mason Hunter and Mikki Halpin, and "Baking Soda" and "Vinegar" by Vicki Lansky.

If you have pop cans to recycle, you may want to see if there is a recycling center near you that will pay you by the pound for them.  A little extra money is always nice!

I'm gradually switching my light bulbs over to the compact flourescent type.  One thing I learned is that I like the 3500K kind.  I like bright light to read by; I don't like mood lighting or the softer light that appeals to some people.  I've only found these kind of bulbs at Home Depot, but other places may have them.

This site explains the difference in the appearance of the light, so you know what you want to look for at the store:

  9. Re-cycle everything. Save all plastic and turn in all bottles and cans for re-cycle. Grow all your own vegies, and limit the amount of garbage you generate. Use public transportation, ride a bike, get rid of your gas gussleing car, or RV.Wear nothing but re-cycled cloths, except for underwear. Make your own clothing. Use only cloth napkins, cloths to clean, and limit all paper products.

  10. - Switch to compact fluorescent (CFL) light bulbs

    - Low flow shower head

    - Insulation blanket for you hot water heater

    - Hybrid vehicle, if you can

    - Buy fresh foods, not processed

    - Install a programmable thermostat

    - Turn lights and other things off when not in use

    - Recycle everything you can

    - Practice conservation

  11. switch to green energy.

    buy local food. (organic?)

    compost!

    cut down on meat

filter your tap water instead of buying bottled water

    recycle!

energy efficient bulbs (this will also lower the hydro bill. up to 75 percent less electricity! and they last longer!)

Go to sources for more tips!

  12. Public transportation.

(If you commute, the bus or train is much cheaper than driving.)

  13. well my family started first by not turning on the heat or a/c on as high at home, or when ur drivin just open windows if your hot and put on a coat if ur cold.
