I have a Sanyo Vizion CLT2054 TV and i don't know if it is an HD TV. Can anyone tell me how to find out if it is? If it isn't and i hook it up to an HD converter what will happen? I don't want to waste the time getting an HD converter from my cable company if it wont do anything...

Thanx

  1. According to Sanyo's website, this is not a HDTV.  HDTVs will be wide screen (16:9), and this one isn't (it's 4:3).  HDTVs will also support resolutions of 720p or above, and there's no mention of that on the specifications for the TV.

There is no reason for you to get a HD box from your cable company.  While it would be possible to connect it to your TV, it obviously won't display in HD.  Instead, you'll get a "squished" picture.  Also, there aren't any shows that are exclusively in HD right now.  Even the HD channels, like Food Network or Discovery, are simply showing HD versions of the same episodes you can watch on their non-HD channels.

You'll also be hearing about the switchover from analog to digital TV which is scheduled to happen just 1 year from now.  This will only affect those people who are using an antenna to watch TV - and not cable or satellite customers.  So you don't have to worry about this either.  (even then, it's important to remember that digital TV is NOT the same as HDTV.)
