I really don't need WIC, but i was forced to sign up anyways?

When i signed up for medical assistance, they told me i needed to sign up for WIC too, so i did. i was pregnant without health insurance, and even though i could afford health insurance, most of the insurance companies wouldn't take me because it was a pre-existing condition, but that's besides the point. I really don't need WIC, and i find it to be more of a hassle than a help. I'm fully capable of providing the proper nutrition for myself, and my baby, but I don't want to lose the medical assistance. Will they cancel my WIC/medical assistance if i just don't use the checks?

  1. Why would you not want assistance to make sure you and your baby are healthy.

  2. I think you should take advantage of it ... WIC is for you and the baby and it helps every little bit helps even if you are taking good care of yourself

  3. You cannot be forced to utilize the WIC program.  they can encourage you, but under no circumstances is it mandatory.  Simply let them know at your next WIC appoitment that you are not longer interested, but may come back after the baby is born (They supply breastpumps and if you bottle feed they supply formula, which is very helpful!).

Never let anyone bully you into anything!  Enjoy your pregnancy stress free!

  4. Have you had the baby yet? formula is very expensive, but if you say you can take care of it yourself then good for you!!

To answer your question, you do not need to receive wic in order to receive medicaid. It is pretty standard for them to suggest you get on wic because most can benifit from it. also if you don't use your vouchers for the month it's ok. wic doesn't care. you just lose those benifits for that month.(wic not medical).

Also if you get off wic for now and decide later, hey i could use it now, all you have to do is sighn back up!

  5. They just want to help. Wic isnt just about free milk etc.. They also have free shots, free nutrition classes , which can be really helpful. It never hurts to get help, because you never know when the unexpected could happen. Give it a try and learn all the things they offer. Good luck

  6. They wont know if you use them or not so they can't cancel anything.

That is strange that they made you sign up for it.

  7. No they won't cancel your insurance if you don't use the checks, WIC won't report it or at least I know they don't report it here.  They just suggested I sign up for WIC because if you qualify for medical help you usually qualify for WIC and they want pregnant woman and those with little kids to know about such help out there.

  8. you would be crazy not to. you will save over $150 a month on formula alone.( i wish i could get back on wic.) use wic and then you can save the extra money that you arent spending on formula. they will know if you arent using the checks. you need to speak to your medicaid. if you had money you wouldnt be signed up for wic. they go on your income.

  9. they just want u to do it because you get alot of free things for your baby such as the milk that can be quite expensive. but if u dont use them then its not like its against the law. you dont have to....they will just expire and if you never go back they wont hassle you.
