Question:

I really feel for Stephenie Meyer right now?

I read Stephenie Meyer's latest blog from August 28th on her website, and I feel bad for her. Midnight Sun; her book; her words, are just being spread across the internet like no one cares about her feelings or her rights as an author. Only she has the right to distribute her own novel. I myself have not read Midnight Sun on the internet simply because I respect Stephenie Meyer and because it's wrong. I cannot know how she feels about this, to be violated of her rights in this manor. I strongly discourage all copies of Midnight Sun being floated around on the internet. If I were Stephenie, I would feel like just quitting writing Midnight Sun too. But I know Stephenie wouldn't do that to her fans. she cares about them too much. I would just like people to think about Stephenie Meyer and her feelings, and how she probably feels right now. I completely support her, and I hope you do too.

How do you guys, the fans, feel about this outrage?

  1. I feel so bad for her! i just read it and its awful that someone did that! I'm glad she decided to keep writing it though, I am excited for it.

  2. Would you want the eBook for free?

You don't have to beat around the bush - I can email it to you if you like!

  3. im absoulutly outraged...i just feel some peopl go to far and its such a shame for that to have happened. Its like people dont care anymore and just want to be the first to read it...Like come on you cant wait...its such an upset and im really upset about this as are many fans. Yet i completly understand her desision and maybe one day she will continue to finish the novel. I too and i feel all fans should respect her and not read internet leaked copies!

  4. FINALLY someone who is not bashing her! I am so SICK of people who seem to think her horrible for being angry about this! She was violated in the worst way!

I cannot, however, harbor anger toward whoever leaked it because Miss Stephenie does not.

"I believe that there was no malicious intent with the initial distribution."

    EDIT:

Seriously, why am I being given a thumbs down? Because I am actually empathetic and sympathetic for Miss Stephenie? Because I'm not furious that I'll have to wait longer than originally thought for Midnight Sun? Because I'm tired of people who ARE angry at Miss Stephenie? I'm sorry, but that is just wrong. I know that many people think she is making a big deal out of nothing but she is not. She didn't give copies to that many people and the people she did give them to were people she trusted not to leak them. As I stated before, she harbors no anger toward that person so I can't either. I am angry that so many people think that just because she put a link up on her website to the link means that she wants everyone to read it because that is simply false. All you have to do is read the entire message. She states: "I did not want my readers to experience Midnight Sun before it was completed, edited and published." Just because she put up the draft doesn't mean that she isn't nauseated at the thought that so many people are reading something she didn't want them to read yet. If I were Miss Stephenie I would have done the same exact thing. I would have put up the true link to the leak so that those people who have absolutely no self-control could read my actual copy and not a fake. I would wish that my fans would be patient and wait for the best work I could possibly give them. Grow up, people.

Oh, and Fingolfin-san? She is not canceling the series. Midnight Sun was not going to have a series. It was going to be one book. And yes, it is true that every person, including authors, has hardships but I think that it would be best if you tried to see things from her point of view. What would you do if you were in Miss Stephenie's position? Would you truly be able to finish a book when you are angry and sad just to think about it and know that whatever you write won't be as good as you can possibly make it?

  5. Part of me agrees with you. Leaking someone's book is wrong. The other part thinks it's immature to threaten to put a book on hold because of what one guy did, even temporarily.

    ♥M♥

  6. i think its terrible that someone would do that. i feel so bad for stephenie. even though stephenie put the link up on her website, i won't be reading it, because i am still hoping that she will finish it, and when i read it, it will be in a book, the way she intended it to be.

I really hope she will finish it, and i think once she is given time to just rest and be with her family, she will finish it. it is especially horrible because she says she knows who released it, and that someone is someone she valued and trusted enough to give them an advanced partial copy.

    hopefully everything will work out.

  7. HAH! That was a good joke--

    Oh, you were serious?

It's her own fault. She gave MULTIPLE people copies of UNEDITED manuscripts. She gave them their OWN COPIES. Showing sections to trusted friends is one thing, though even that shouldn't be done until an editor has looked it over. Giving other people full copies of your current writings is just begging to be leaked.

Do you sympathize with the child who throws a tantrum when they steal cookies from the cookie jar then cry and whine when they can't have another? That's basically what you're saying you'd do here.

Edit: How am I being 'cruel and utterly ridiculous' by voicing my opinion? I'd say you're being more 'cruel and utterly ridiculous' by asking people a question then narrowing it down so that only people who agree with you can answer it without getting thumb-downed.

  8. Myer lost the first 12 chapters of a novel. Tolkien lost both his parents, C.S. Lewis lost his mother at a  young age. Shakespeare was poorly paid and overworked, he lost his Father and his child in close succession. They all pushed on and have become some of history's greatest authors. Myer needs to handle disappointment better, I'm not being calloused, she has a right to be pissed and she has a right to take a vacation but she didn't really need to cancel the series.

  9. First off, she said she wouldn't keep writing it...you ask how people feel and then don't want to hear 'trash talking.'   She posted a copy herself on her website, so she is letting people read it...i dont feel bad for her because she is the person responsible for letting it leak by handing out so many copies herself.

She disapointed me way before this with the release of Breaking dawn, and dismissing her fans, saying 'they'll understand one day.'' or some c**p....

Does anyone remember her make Edward beg Jacob to impregnant his wife...weird.

  10. I SUPPORT STEPHENIE MEYER!!!

I don't think she'll publish it.  She's always been hesitant about publishing her work with all the rejection that comes with it.  Now, a lot of people rejected her for BD and now they've stabbed her with all this midnight sun drama.

I really hope she publishes it, but I understand completely if she doesn't.

  11. She's not writing it? WONDERFUL! No more wasted paper on her trash.

  12. I feel very badly for her.  You can tell from her blog post that she feels terrible.  and whoever did this messed it up for her and for all her loyal fans, and they should feel horrible about what they did.

  13. Holy c**p, I love you!

Not really, but it's so nice to finally see someone that is also sympathetic toward Miss Stephenie. People are being cruel and utterly ridiculous.

Thank you for voicing what I've been shouting at my computer for the past half an hour! :3
