I really like this name?????

Question

I usually love classic names such as Cecilia and Eliza but for some reason at the minute i really like the name "Sailor" for a girl.

What are your opinions on this name? Thanks in advance :)

I hate it...

Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, and Sailor Venus don't mind it though.

I think it would be subjecting your kid to torture for the rest of her life... at least pick a name that kids in school will have to be creative with in order to tease her

I am a fan of the more classic names also... I'd recommend sticking with one of those :)

I know the feeling of really liking a really strange name.

For example, I just LOVE the idea of naming my daughter (who is due along with her twin brother in 3 mos, by the way) Edelweiss, with the nickname Della, but I don't have the nerve to do it.

All of us have one of those really weird names that we're just in love with - but it's best to choose a name you love that's a little more mainstream.

My husband and I settled on the names Greta and Anton, and I'm perfectly happy without an Edelweiss.

I'm sure you'll think of a name you like as much as you like Sailor, too!

I am sorry but I really don't like it as a first name. But as a middle name, it might actually sound pretty.

But then again, it is up to you and not the rest of us. So if you really like it, go ahead and name your child that.

I have similar taste in names (I prefer more classic names, but not ones that you hear every single day).  The first time I heard Sailor used as a first name was several years ago when Christie Brinkley had her baby, and when I read the reason why they chose that for her, I thought to myself "Normally, that would be the kind of name that I would really hate, but somehow it actually sounds kind of nice."  Maybe it was just the context--Christie Brinkly chose it for their daughter because her husband, Peter Cook, was a descendant of Captain James Cook (the famous explorer), and they were paying tribute to his famous ancestor.  But celebrities can get away with a lot more when it comes to naming their children.  Strange names have almost become expected among Hollywood parents.

Not that I would ever use it--maybe for a puppy--but somehow it seemed to suit her.

I like that name too. It's really cute. I like it spelled Saylor too. I think it's really cute for a baby girl. I also like the name Sawyer. I think both are so original. I like your other names too. Cecelia is such a classy name. I love the nickname Ci Ci.

It's interesting, but I'm not sure I love it. I just can't stop picturing an old guy on a boat. If you think of it as like Sailor Moon, then it sounds a little better.

You're allowed to like the name Sailor - but I'm sure you'll never actually go ahead and name your daughter that...but hey if you do, good luck, nothing "wrong" with it. Personally though - I don't like it :)

I do not care for it at all.  I prefer more traditional names that the child won't be embarrassed about or have to explain.  Maybe, Anna or Marie.

Christie Brinkley has a daughter named Sailor.  If you really like, go for it.  It's unique, easy to spell, etc.
