Ok, so a couple of days ago I was stretching my right split and fell out of it weird (I was being stupid and reaching for something - my splits aren't all the way down, so it's hard to balance without both hands on the ground...) and I hurt my knee. The first day I couldn't put any weight on it, the second day I had to limp around everywhere, and the third day it didn't hurt too bad, but it wasn't back to normal. It hasn't gotten much better since the third day (It's now day six).

My dance classes start back up tomorrow and I've just been moved up to a much higher level for this year than I was in last year (I was soo excited when I found out!! :D). It's ballet btw and my class is an hour and a half long.

It's mostly better, but it's still a little weird when I plea and eleve on that leg.

It's not like a major injury or anything, but I don't know how it will affect my ability to dance and keep up in the class that I am in (I'm with people who have been dancing for like eight years vs. my two)

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

  1. congrats on getting moved up first of all! that's excited =]

well if it's nothing serious like you said, then you should probably just let it naturally heal and wait it out.

if it doesn't feel better after about a week then you should go see a doctor.

  2. It might simply be a strain or sprain, since you state its feeling better.  But if it still hurts after a week, it might be dislocated or something like that.  The only way to tell for sure is to go to your doctor.  They will be able to properly exam your knee and make sure there isn't a more serious or underlying ailment.  Hey, it's better to not dance while you heal, than to not be able to dance at all.

If you do go to class, you might want to wear a protective brace (you can still move in) for added support.  And I'd definitely take it easy on that side until it feels better.

    Hope this helps.  Good luck!
