I have to make chocolate chip cookies and the recipe calls for 2 sticks of unsalted and I only have salted butter.

Also in the recipe is 1 teaspoon of salt.

Should I add the salt or no because the butter is salted?

  1. Go ahead and use the salted butter they will be fine! you can skip the salt that it calls for. Hope that helps.

  2. Chocolate chip cookies are lovely with salted butter!  So you can just use that instead.  In the end it will taste almost the same as if you'd used unsalted.  I wouldn't put in the salt because you already have salt in the butter but if you taste it and it tastes like it needs it, then add it!

    Hope this helps.

  3. i use salted butter all the time, i never buy the unsalted.  I don't reduce the salt, but you can.  taste the dough before you add the salt.  if you think it needs more, then add 1/2 the salt.

  4. I would add the salt it calls for (the butter doesn't have that much salt in it to make a difference)  because it does the following things for your baked goods:

Salt is a terrific flavor enhancer, helping to reduce bitterness and acidity, and bringing out other flavors in the food.

Adding a little salt balances the flavor of sweets like cakes, cookies, and candies.

hope this helps.              good luck and enjoy.
