A rear-view mirror in a car allows the driver to see the traffic behind.

Which type of mirror is best for making a rear-view window? To make the decision, first list the advantage(s) and disadvantage(s) of using each type of mirror before explaining your choice.

Plane Mirror : List down Advantage(s) and Disadvantage(s)

Convex Mirror:List down Advantage(s) and Disadvantage(s)

  1. plane  mirror: equal height of object and image, object and image have equal distance from mirror. only average range of view.

    convex mirror: outward bulge lets you see things smaller, has a greater scope. helpful for looking at cars from near and afar.

    concave mirror: magnifies objects, only used for make-up mirrors, etc. very small range of view.

    choice will be convex mirror, just like for a security mirror in a store.


  2. best bet would be a convex lens.

    Due to its outward bulge,it gives you a wider perspective of the traffic behind you

    however the objects,due to reflection appear further than they actually are that is their relative perceived position is not the same as their position in 3 dimensional space and therefore

    "Objects in this mirror are closer than they appear"

    on second thoughts,why not just use a plane mirror
