I'm down to only needing a color for one room now~~my master bedroom! I don't know what to pick and my husband doesn't really care. He said he likes wood (not possible to do that though) and earth tones. I've used brown already and a cream color too. My existing bedroom is green so I dont want my new bedroom the same color. I also don't want red as there is only one window in the room, so it can't be really deep and dark. Not white, yellow, pink, blue, green, brown, red or variations of those colors. I need some real advice here! Nothing too feminine of course. I've tried some samples and DON'T like them at all.

There is also cream colored carpet in my bedroom which may be switched to wood flooring later.

Any good advice?

Please and thank you!

  1. Benjamin Moore color: HC-76  (Davenport Tan) goes very well with the Aqua color you mentioned which is really called Mineral Blue or Spa

  2. Well you've pretty much eliminated every colour there is!!

Have you tried looking at wallpaper?  There could be something there that's a bit different and in a colour and style you like.  Apparently wallpaper is coming back in fashion in new houses - obviously within reason though!

Otherwise... how about a medium mauve / burgundy.  It doesn't have to be too dark and if you choose a medium shade it isn't too feminine either.

  3. OK, the following colors are no-goes:

    green

    red

    white

    yellow

    pink

    blue

    brown

So it sounds like you're left with gray, orange or purple.

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think you should consider one of their SandScapes faux finishes. It will give you some texture & drama without having to paint a bold color. "Clambake" (# 7184) is a nice gray.

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

  4. Ralph Lauren has a color called Prince.  Its a very nice Taupe color and I bet it would go great with the carpet.  It would also carry over your browns from your other rooms.  you might check it out and see if you like it.  I got mine at Home Depot.  I am an interior design student so what ever you choose make sure it complements the rest of your home.  You don't want a circus of colors in your home for a nice cohesive look and feel.

  5. My bedroom is Hunter Green with a maroon wallpaper trim, its really pretty

  6. I used a color recently that was nice, it was a taupe chocolate color, just make sure to use a warm version ( with red or yellow undertones) instead of a cool version ( more purplish).  It's much cozier for a bedroom, unless you are going for the modern, industrial look

  7. I've seen some really nicely decorated rooms lately that are chocolate brown and an aqua color. It looks great together.. especially with wood and earthtones! It's very soothing colors for a bedroom!!
