I am moving to Brisbane in 2 months and I need to find a job there before i leave New Zealand!

I have 1 year Admin experience (General Support Clerk) and 2 years Customer Service experience and English is my first language. So im looking into the Admin, Call centre, Customer service type of jobs.

I wouldnt mind working in a factory either, doing packing, i heard they have really good rates. Would i be able to get a job in a factory even though i have no experience in that area?

I use to work for EDS (Electronic Data System), am I able to get a job easy at the Brisbane EDS Branch?

How can i be successful with finding a job fast? HELP!

  1. Jobs in Australia are only hard to find for those who don't look. You only get out what you put in. If you are as keen as you seem you'll have a job in no time. There have been shows on tv here about how employers cant seem to find anyone who is willing to work. Just apply for every job you see and you'll get one.

  2. It's almost impossible to get a job in another country before you get there - unless you are a professional like an Engineer, etc.

Basically, you're just an average person, so you will need to do your job search when you arrive.

I suggest that you jump on SEEK.com.au, jobsjobsjobs.com.au, etc.., and have a look at what is going.

If there is a branch of EDS in Brisbane, you should approach them through the New Zealand office and see if there is anything going - and they will be able to assist you there.  But - only do this if you left the company on very good terms.

As for temp work - sure, most people want full time permanent work, but if you need work, a couple of days temp work is better than no money coming in at all.

  3. Suggest you go to your local newsagent and order in Saturday's Courier-Mail, Brisbane's major newspaper, if not readily available in NZ. There's a large employment section. Nothing stopping you from applying for jobs from over there.

  4. Be very wary of job agencies my wife has been dealing with Integrated Group for the past 5 months and even though she keeps telling them she wants full-time work they continue to send her to jobs that only have a couple of days of work a week. She talks to the other people who come through other agencies and they tell her the same thing so all agencies are as bad as one another

  5. You seem to have clear ideas of the type of jobs you want.  Go to the post office and ask to look at the Brisbane Yellow Pages.  Find companies that employ people doing what you want to do and call them directly.  Most shops, factories etc have staff wanted signs outside, at the moment.  So as long as your prepared to work hard finding a job is easy.

"Experience Not needed" fills the paper at the moment.  (and I agree with getting the paper).

I would be much much more concerned with finding accommodation!!!! Rental properties are rare, expensive and have 40 people applying for every place.  Buying is very difficult with house prices going through the roof.  i am just luck that I own my home.  Good luck and welcome!!
