well my problem is that i have bought my first house a year ago. i have a nice flower bed infront that was full of white rock about 2 to 3 inches deep. well i really hate it so i went out and mulched over top of the rock and it looked good. For about 3 weeks till the rocks started to pop back up. so everytime i try to plant flowers i cant because the rock is so deep that getting to the soil is very hard to do. i question is how can i get the rock out? its way to hard to dig by hand because u cant dig in it. and i dont want to hire a bobcat to come out. can i just put weed fabric overtop of it then mulch? will a roto tiller work better? please any help will work

  1. you could rent a teramite. they are a fraction of the cost of a bobcat (about $140 a weekend). very simple to use its just like a giant shovel. weed fabric will never work and if you dont like raised beds the rock will have to come out. call any tool rental shop and just ask for one its well worth the investment.

  2. You could weed fabric over top of it but then eventually you'll see that.  Your only permanent fix is to get rid of it.

  3. So simple an answer, you will kick your self.

    Make a raised bed.

Use timbers, stone, cross ties, etc... and raise the level 12 inches.

Once you fill with organic matter like mulch, compost, landscapers mix, blend it all in, and presto, you have a beautiful bed.

I realize this solution would dawn on you later this week, but for now, give me the credit.

Now go drink a beer and relax.
