ok i am in 7th grade and i am in an advanced pre-algebra class and was wondering if u guys can help me out the question is: A rectangular shape has a length-to-width ratio of approximately 5 to 3.

A designer can use the expression 1/3(5w) to find the length of such a rectangle with a given width w. Find the length of such a rectangle with width 6 inches.

i have no idea what to so if anyone can explain it that would be helpful

  1. It tells you the expression 1/3(5w) is way to find the length if the width is w.  1/3(5w)= (5/3)(w) that is the ratio of length to width times the width.  So, if the w=6, then (5/3)w= (5/3)(6)= 30/3=10

    To check:  if length is 10 and width is 6, the ratio is 10/6 which is 5/3/

    Take the ratio and multiply by the width.
